Our main concern

With 15 years of diving experience on the island, safety is our number one priority. Safety underwater, on the boat and on the island.

Beautiful Cocos Island is located 300 miles off the Costa Rican coast. It is 36 hours away from the nearest hyperbaric facility, so diving safety is a basic matter.

That is the reason why we highly recommend Nitrox on Okeanos, allowing a greater margin of safety as well as a longer bottom time. Nitrox can allow you a higher percentage of bottom time, and will short your surface intervals if needed. On top of this you will find yourself less tired that diving with air.

Our maximum depth is 120 feet/ 40 meters for the first dive, and deco dives are not allowed on Okeanos.

If you are already a certified Nitrox diver, please bring your license. If you would like to become certified, you can do so on Okeanos and choose between PADI or TDI.

For some it is been a while between dives and may not have had the opportunity to dive recently. However don’t miss out on the opportunity to dive in Cocos Island.

Consult your nearest dive shop or go for a scuba review, or if you prefer you can do a check out dive in San José before we embark.

Most dives at Cocos Island are reserved for advanced divers. Once on the island, we will dive in 2 groups, with each group having at least 1 divemaster. All Okeanos dives are guided.

15 minutes prior to each dive a signal bell will indicate that the dive briefing is to begin.

Each diver will be provided with a sausage and a personal EPIRB that attaches to your BCD. In case of difficult weather, this system is effective up to 5 miles.

All our skiffs captains have worked on the island for at least 5 years, and on Okeanos all crew members are medical emergency trained, and of course oxygen and defribillator is on board. Each skiff is equipped with its own radio. There is constant communication during all dives between the skiffs and Okeanos to improve security.

With many of our crew members having worked on Okeanos for more than 5 years, their knowledge of the island is unsurpassed.

With safety taken care of protocols, briefings, guided dives, and buddy system, we just have to……….ENJOY THE DIVE!
